Self-Storage Best Practices & Facility Guidelines
Welcome to your new storage space! We are committed to providing a secure, clean, and convenient environment for your belongings. To ensure your items stay in pristine condition and your experience is seamless, please follow these essential best practices.
1. Accessing the Facility
● Gate Entry Code: To operate the entrance gate, enter your personal access code followed immediately by an asterisk (*). The gate will not open without the asterisk.
● Secure the Gate: Please ensure the gate closes completely behind you upon entry and exit.
● Quality Lock: Always invest in a high-quality, heavy-duty lock for your individual unit door.
2. Packing & Organization Best Practices
Maximizing your space and keeping it organized from day one will save you hours of frustration down the road.
● Label Every Box: Clearly write the contents or category on the side of every box (not just the top) so you can identify items when they are stacked. Consider keeping a master inventory list.
● Create a Walkway: Do not pack your unit flat to the door. Leave a center aisle or walking path from the front to the back so you can easily access items without unloading the entire unit.
● Frequent Items Up Front: Place the items you expect to need most often (like seasonal clothes or holiday decor) right by the door. Keep rare keepsakes and heavy furniture toward the back.
● Heavier Items on Bottom: Always stack heavier, sturdier boxes on the ground floor and place lighter, more fragile boxes on top.
3. Moisture Protection & Vapor Barriers
Our storage units are designed to be high, dry, and secure. However, because concrete floors can naturally wick trace amounts of moisture from the earth over time, items resting directly on the floor can be susceptible to damage. We highly recommend creating a vapor barrier.
4. Pest Prevention & Safety
Keeping pests out and ensuring safety is a team effort. Strict adherence to facility rules protects everyone's belongings.
● No Perishables: Absolutely no food, pet food, produce, or perishable items are allowed. These are the primary attractants for rodents and insects.
● Clean Appliances: Thoroughly clean and dry all appliances (especially refrigerators and ovens) to remove food crumbs or trapped moisture before storing them.
● Fuel: Do not store gasoline cans or propane tanks.
5. Choosing the Right Environment: Traditional vs. Climate Control
Depending on what you are storing and for how long, you may need to consider the type of environment your unit provides:
● Traditional (Standard) Storage: These units are highly budget-friendly and frequently offer direct drive-up access, making loading and unloading heavy items incredibly fast. Because they are subject to natural outdoor temperature fluctuations, they are ideal for durable items like plastic bins, lawn equipment, metal tools, bicycles, and outdoor patio furniture.
● Climate-Controlled Storage: These indoor units are enclosed and mechanically adjusted to stay within a consistent temperature and humidity range year-round. This premium protection is highly recommended for long-term storage or sensitive, valuable items that can warp, crack, rust, or grow mildew—such as wooden furniture, electronics, paper files/photos, musical instruments, artwork, and clothing.
6. Insurance and Property Protection
While we provide robust facility security, you are responsible for insuring the items inside your unit against unforeseen circumstances.
● Check Existing Policies: Contact your homeowners or renters insurance provider to determine if your current policy extends to off-site storage.
● Facility Insurance Options: If your personal policy does not cover storage, or if you prefer independent coverage, we offer dedicated self-storage insurance that you can easily purchase directly through us. Please ask our office for details to get set up!
Thank you for storing with us. If you have any questions or need assistance maximizing your unit layout, our management team is always happy to help!
